Make sure you're covered when it comes to travel insurance
A vacation is the best relief from a Canadian winter. Relaxing on a southern beach or skiing to take advantage of nature’s seasonal gifts is high on traveler’s lists this year. These may sound like different ways to relax but something both have in common are the risks of getting sick or injured while out of Canada or outside your home province.
Travel medical insurance is something every vacationing Canadian should plan to purchase. Travel medical insurance is easy to purchase and inexpensive especially when compared to the risk of travelling without it. In the opinion of most experts travel medical insurance is as essential as your passport.
Travel medical insurance must be purchased prior to the departure and can cover medical expenses, accommodation expenses and other losses that may be incurred while travelling domestically or internationally. Various types of plans are available with or without coverage for lost or stolen baggage, trip cancellation or trip interruption.
As our travel destinations and activity options expand traveling to exotic destinations puts us at a greater risk of encountering an illness our body does not have the antibodies to fight off. Investigate your destination as sometimes vaccinations are strongly recommended ahead of time, but nothing provides 100% protection. Plus, getting sick or injured in a foreign country is not the ideal way to spend your vacation – not only does it cut into time spent by the pool, or hiking in the jungle but it can cost thousands of dollars for transportation, medical treatment and medication if your not adequately covered.
Protecting yourself with travel medical insurance is essential to a worry free vacation. Don’t leave home without it.
